Sting Rays are #1!

The regular soccer season is officially over and Sophie's U10 team is #1! It has been so fun to watch such a competitive team this year and we are so proud of them. So...playoffs are this weekend. Maybe a few games on Saturday and Sunday games too (which I am stressed about, not sure what to do). And if they keep winning, their will be more games in weekends to come. We'll keep you posted-go Sting Rays!!

Halloween '08

Well we didn't have the chance to have all the fun festivities like we normally do on Halloween....we missed the trunk-or-treat because we were in Utah and I didn't have it in me to carve pumpkins, but we still had a great time on Halloween.

Sam went as Ben 10 Alien Force. In case you are not familier it is one of his favorite cartoons. Here is a pic of the real dude:

The girls went as Pink Ladies ala Grease. They were so fun together. Maggie so looks up to her big sister and they love being twins. I wish I'd gotten pictures of the back of their jackets because they said Pink Ladies.

The Westfalls came over for pizza and then the kids went trick-or-treating. It was the first time we let them go on their own (of course Calvin was with them). But thank heavens for cell phones because we did lose a few of them through the night. But they all made it home safely and with their bags chuck full of candy!

Happy Halloween!!

The girls are wearing the shirts that Grandma Roberts made for them and Sam is wearing the one she sent him. So cute!! Have a fun and safe Halloween everyone!

Matt & Jenny's Wedding

This weekend the kids and I drove up to St. George, UT for my brother Matt's wedding. It was quite a whirlwind weekend but everything turned out so nice. I had remembered everything I needed to bring, but forgot my camera! So I am lacking on pictures and didn't get any of the kids and I, but here are a few.
Matt had actually gone through a divorce and moved to St. George to start over. And then he met Jenny....and found his soul mate. She has two beautiful kids from her first marriage and together they make a lovely family. We are so happy for them!

The other fun thing is that Jenny is one of Brooklyn's best friends growing up. So what a small world. She ended up flying in at the last minute to be there and we're so glad she came! She was a big help to us and it's always so nice to be with her. This is Brooklyn with their other best friend, Kathleen.

The kids and I spent the next couple of days relaxing and going to our favorite spots around town. It finally felt like fall with a crispness in the air that I love. We saw High School Musical 3, went to a couple of parks, ate at Cafe Rio, went to numerous craft & scrapbook stores, the outlet mall for baby shopping, and got Grandma Sycamore's bread and Grannie B's cookies. Gotta love the grannies!

My wife and I have been discussing this topic for weeks now. This blog is typically a place were we place pictures of kids, trips and light hearted moments, but I think it is important for us to publicly state our support of Proposition 8.

My wife and I have been very pro-gay rights our entire lives. We believe that we are all God's children, sent to this earth with different challenges to deal with and learn from. As brothers and sisters, we should fight to ensure that everyone is treated with fairness and kindness.

As we have listened to the arguments for and against Proposition 8, we believe that it is now necessary to legally define the millennia-old institution of marriage as being between one man and one woman.

I appreciated the opportunity of being raised by a father and mother and wish that for everyone. While circumstances outside our control may sometimes make this goal unobtainable, we believe it is in the best interest of society to preserve and promote this ideal. The state does not have the same vested interest in promoting same-sex relationships.

We believe that we have a right to teach our children that a strong society is built on a foundation of strong families and traditional marriage. We also feel it is necessary to protect the religious freedoms of those who hold this relationship sacred. Proposition 8 will do that.

We do not oppose others from entering into legal contracts to protect their private interests and relationships. We also do NOT condone behavior that would make life harder for those struggling with same sex attraction.

Our feelings towards the many people we know that are gay have not changed. In fact, most of them will gladly attest that the traditional family led by a father and mother is an ideal they either enjoyed or they longed for. We invite them to join with us in voting Yes on Proposition 8. We also urge you to vote for Proposition 8 in order to preserve the rights of children, people of faith, and all those who were born of a father and mother.

Ironically, some of these same people have even tried to shut down dialogue on this issue with intimidation and violence. Little Update

I have not blogged in a while....just busy I guess and nothing major to post. Things have been kind of a let down since as most of you know Chris accomplished his goal of swimming the Catalina Channel On Sept 19th. It was such an awesome experience for all involved. His parents and brother Jordon were able to come out and be with him on the boat. And sister Brooklyn and I with our kids got to be his biggest fans. For pictures of the event click this link: Catalina Channel. Then just a couple of days later Chris left for Abu Dhabi. He has been gone for 3 weeks now! Wow, the time is actually going faster than I thought it would. Probably because I have so much to do. If I had nothing to do, I'm sure it would drag. Speaking of dragging, I feel like that is all I do! With so much going on, I want to go full speed but my 8 month pregnant body is like the back end of slinky always trying to catch up. I don't do nearly what I'd like. I guess just a day we've all survived together is progress:).

Chris is doing well. He has been keeping a blog of things in Abu Dhabi, but it's not public for safety reasons. If any of you are curious, let me know and I can have him send you an invite to view. Work is going well and because of all the growth there, work will probably be never ending for a while. His work day has been normal for now and I hope it stays that way by the time we get there, even though it's only supposed to get busier for him. It will just be nice to actually have him home every night.

Friday is the Sabbath day there and so he went to church today. He was called to be the 1st Assistant in the High Priest Group. He's excited to serve. We are in the Manamah Bahrain Stake, Abu Dhabi Ward. It is 60% Filipino, so we will have a chance to learn many different cultures while we are there. I am just so ready to get there and start our new life together! Being apart this long stinks. Though I am grateful for Skype as we talk and see each other every day.

So for now we have soccer games tomorrow, Primary program Sunday and we leave next Wednesday for my brother's wedding in St. George. Packing schmacking....
